Women in Childcare Technical Working Group (WiC TWG)
The Women in Childcare TWG is one of the 4 TWGs in Uthabiti’s Collaborative Action for Childcare initiative, which exists to accelerate quality, affordable childcare for all.
We strongly believe that prioritizing women in the childcare economy will enhance the quality of care given to children and empower women to accelerate the delivery of better services and be a multi-benefit phenomenon, increasing the national GDP.
Key Functions
With the understanding that Childcare is a predominantly women’s space, the main objective of the Technical Working Group is to bring together a broad range of women led organizations and organizations working in Women Economic Empowerment to shape the conversation on prioritizing the complex needs of Women in Childcare.
Towards achieving this objective, the key functions of TWG are:
- Conduct joint resource mobilizing to support WiC activities in general and also WiC TWG specific activities.
- Convene and conduct expert led conversations in line with WiC.
- To provide a platform for discussion and sharing of experiences and research on childcare.
- To maintain and expand a pool of expertise for technical support: to conduct joint advocacy and lobbying for change in the childcare ecosystem.
- To identify knowledge gaps in the childcare ecosystem and propose research topics.
- To develop joint policy briefs and also contribute to policy recommendations.
- To be an information hub on WiC and conduct regular stakeholder engagements and learning sessions.
- Act as a link between paid and unpaid care work conversations.
- Amplify voices of women in childcare through sensitization, awareness activities and co convening conferences and fora for WiC.
